Ultimately, the handheld is a low-budget, vertical console that can be taken anywhere for classic arcade gaming at a moment’s notice. It’s not for multiplayer, there are no bonus features like Game of the Month, and it’s likely aimed at newcomers to the retro gaming world than seasoned Evercade fans. L2 and R2 are on the outside though and I feel like I instinctively try to use the joint of my finger to press these while keeping the tips of my fingers on L1 and R1 to maintain a good grip on the device, but this just feels a bit awkward to me. As you would expect with an officially licensed product like this, the quality of the emulation on offer here is as close to perfection as you can get. I think the main problem is that it’s just maybe positioned in a slightly difficult place in the market and could have probably done with a more diverse set of pre-installed games to really push it into the spotlight.
