Description

And reading very much like The Good Bits of a Saga, complete with riddles and sword fights and prophecies and ships and wolves and all the things you want in a Viking tale! Though lightly undertaken, this quest into the unknown turns into an exacting experience for the courageous companions whose strength, skill, wit and intelligence will be tested to the extreme limits. The lack of violence makes it a very safe read for any child, and the continual emphasis on morality also hangs true on the framework of the book's thematic structure. The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. Aud has warned the Vikings that should blood ever be shed upon Hy-Brasil, the entire island would sink beneath the waves.

I really like this book because Eric doesn't fall for tricks like he said to Thorkhild “don't go in the sea, the old man of the sea is filled with tricks and might freeze you to death! I think you should read this book because Eric and his crew are really adventurous because they went across about 10 adventures.

There were 99 commendations of both kinds in 44 years including Foreman and two others in 1980, when no one was highly commended. Maroon cloth boards bumped to the corners, otherwise covers and contents clean, binding tight and square. So begins this spell-binding series of adventures written by the newly acknowledged master of children’s stories, Terry Jones. They are tested in various ways, go over the edge of the world and beneath the bottom of the sea, and fight inner demons as well as outer, until they find the land they seek and discover it is not for them. Each chapter forms a complete story in itself, and the landscape of myth and legend is illustrated perfectly by Michael Foreman with exquisitely atmospheric black and white illustrations.Winner of the Children's Book Award, The Saga of Erik the Viking begins a daring and dramatic adventure series updating Nordic sagas for a young audience. I think the children will enjoy it and there are lots of adventures and I like the moral at the end. But really Erik wouldn't be the main character without his amazing crew, and the stories really make that shine, that his Besties are what keep it going, and I love them for that. This book was published by Puffin in 1988 and is holding up well for a vintage paperback with just slight tanning to the pages and outer text block. Despite their pessimism, they manage great and heroic deeds, which are dazzlingly illustrated by Foreman.
