Description

A thrilling domestic noir with a great sense of time and place, excellent characterisation and plenty of surprising twists.” Catherine Cooper

One of the themes in the book was around ‘silent sentences'. I found this incredibly interesting as I haven’t come across this term before, but it is the idea that when somebody commits a crime their family/friends or even victims are condemned in addition to the perpetrators. For example, they may be hounded by the press. I thought this was portrayed well and made me think about how difficult this must be for those who’s reality this may be. Other themes in the book include the changing position of women in society, relationships, forgiveness and how things which happen in our childhood can impact us as adults. The story revolves around Nancy, who after a tragedy in her family, decides to seek refuge in her grandmother's house, Tall Chimneys. Jane is a true master of her craft and Coming to Find You is her best yet. Fantastic atmosphere and details and a cleverly handled dual timeline make this a sure-fire hit." —Phoebe Morgan, author of The Doll HouseFor the first 80%, I absolutely love the book, there’s a terrific air of mystery but in my opinion it becomes a bit overly dramatic, especially in the present day, although I may be an outlier here! Conversely, there’s one thing that affects Nancy for a lot of her life which I find a tad weak as I think I expected more. The ending though is enjoyable and very positive.

Nancy's mother and stepfather have been brutally killed. After a trial that gripped the nation, her stepbrother has been convicted of the double murder. But the end of the trial is just the beginning of a new nightmare for Nancy: the press is rabid, certain that she is hiding something. Certain that she knows more that she's telling about that night at the farmhouse . . . I have been thoroughly immersed in this wonderful and engaging novel…full of unexpected twists I didn’t see coming!” Luana Lewis, author of DON’T STAND SO CLOSE Whilst I enjoyed both timelines it was Elizabeth’s wartime story from 1941 that I found the most compelling. Her friendship with Adeline, her unhappy marriage and the compassion she showed not only to the two young evacuee girls, Maisie and Shirley, but others too despite her own suffering, made her a sympathetic and engaging character. The detail about the secret army added a level of jeopardy and with both Nancy and Elizabeth’s chapters frequently ending on cliffhangers, I was hooked and desperate to know what happened next!

The characters in this book are fantastically written. The bad guys were awful, like Martin, and Duncan, Martin is one of the weirdest creepiest men ever. Corry often explores darker themes, and those living on the fringes of society and this book is no exception: gritty, real, interesting and clever. Highly recommended.”— Gillian McAllister, author of That Night on I Made a Mistake The characters in the book were depicted incredibly well. Both female protagonists were strong, and I enjoyed following their stories. I like that they both do actions which we would categorically call good, as well as some which we would condone, they are not clear cut which makes them more intriguing. There was incredible pacing for a thriller and many twists and turns that I felt came to a satisfying conclusion at the end.
