About this deal

Round 1: Pull up a loop in any corner and chain 1. SC around the blanket, working 3 SCs into each corner. When you reach the corner you started with, slip stitch into the starting stitch, then chain 2 and turn. ROWS 9 – 10: Work 2 rows of HHDC in Seafoam. At the end of row 9, chain 2 and turn. At the end of row 10, pull through White, then chain 1 and turn. This blanket is a variation of our gingham blanket patterns that use the technique of carrying yarn as you work, also known as tapestry crochet. If you’ve never done this before, no worries, here is a video to show you the stitches used in this blanket and how to carry yarn! Hi there! It’s Hannah. I used Red Heart Soft yarn for the first time for this blanket and I really love how it turned out! The yarn definitely lives up to its name of being soft and the finished product has the perfect amount of stretchiness.

After I finished my blanket I laid it out on some foam mats and pinned the corners. Then I got it wet with a spray bottle and let it dry overnight. Round 3: Work a HHDC in each stitch around the blanket, and 3 HHDCs in each corner stitch. When you reach the corner you started with, slip stitch into the corner and tie off. What’s so cool about loop yarn? Well, it allows you to knit blankets when you don’t know how to knit. You don’t need knitting needles or crochet hooks or any sort of knitting experience whatsoever. In about ten minutes you can learn how to make a gorgeous blanket, like the one I’m going to show you today: Finger Knitting with Loop Yarn

ROWS 17 – 18: Work 2 rows of HHDC in Seafoam. At the end of row 17, chain 2 and turn. At the end of row 18, chain 1 and turn. How do you finish the blanket? I cover this in the video above. Basically, you bind off by threading loop 2 through loop 1, then loop 3 through loop 2, etc., all the way across the top of your blanket. The pattern for this blanket is fairly simple and repetitive, which means that once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze. ROWS 21 – 22: Work 2 rows of HHDC in Seafoam. At the end of row 21, chain 2 and turn. At the end of row 22, chain 1 and turn.

NOTE: A reader has told me that she sews a new skein of yarn to the end of the old skein using matching thread, then just trims the tails so you don’t have to weave them in. I think I will try this next time! ROW 2: Work 1 row of HHDC. (The turning chain does not count as a stitch, so when you start a new row, you insert your hook directly into the top of the last stitch of the previous row). When you reach the end of row 2, pull through with White. Don’t cut the Seafoam. Chain 1 and turn. How much yarn will it take? Loop yarn comes in different size skeins. If you are using Lion Brand, which is a smaller skein, you’ll need 12. If you are using the Bernat Blanket EZ yarn, you’ll need 6. ROWS 5 – 6: Work 2 rows of HHDC in Seafoam. At the end of row 5, chain 2 and turn. At the end of row 6, pull through White, then chain 1 and turn. ROWS 25 – 26: Work 2 rows of HHDC in Seafoam. At the end of row 25, chain 2 and turn. At the end of row 26, pull through white White, then chain 1 and turn. ROWS 13 – 14: Work 2 rows of HHDC in Seafoam. At the end of row 13, chain 2 and turn. At the end of row 14, chain 1 and turn.

We presented this as a workbook format. The afghan on the front cover is the same but injected with Red Heart Super Saver colours. Pattern SuggestionsChain 112 with Seafoam. (To make your blanket bigger or smaller, chain any multiple of 10, then add 2.) What makes this yarn so easy to use is that it has the “loops” you’d normally create with knitting needles pre-sewn into the yarn. That means the loops are always the perfect size and you can knit the blanket together with just your fingers. It’s the perfect “pop in a movie and lounge in your comfiest chair to work on” kind of project. Repeat rows 3 – 26 until you reach your desired length, ending your blanket with 2 rows of HHDC in Seafoam. Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC): YO, insert your hook, pull up a loop and pull directly through first loop on hook. Then YO and pull through remaining loops on hook. Pattern I’ve created a video that will walk you step by step through the process of making this blanket, and then I’ve included some extra tips below.
