Ben Macintyre does a superb job capturing the sense of adventure that inspired these men to fight a different way and the intensity and commitment with which they did so. The book is told through the eyes of an SBS veteran with the moniker, 'Grey', who commands a Pinkie driven by 'Moth' and its HMG manned a U.S. SOF embed known as 'the dude'. I was totally immersed from the get-go with Major Pete and his SAS team starting with their covert operations in Cambodia till the final chapter on the Islamic terrorists on Aussie soil . The book is a fascinating and compelling insight into the men of the LRDG and much is revealed in the tale's telling of both their tactics and their character. It's evident that the author has really done his homework.

As the Desert War ends, Mr. Macintyre looks at how the SAS was used in Italy.
