About this deal

Humidity Control: Foggers are capable of significantly increasing humidity levels in larger vivariums or those with dense foliage. If you opt for an arboreal vivarium, which is usually taller than it is wide, it's important to include lots of places for your reptile to climb. This can include branches and plants whether real or fake. Chameleons and boas can fall into the arboreal category, but quite often One of the biggest dangers to your pet’s life is probably overheating. Overheating can cause physical or neurological damage to your pet. A few adaptations to their vivarium can prevent this problem and allow them to be as happy and active as they would in nature. About Vivarium Ventilation You’ll need to mist the habitat daily or install a drip system when keeping these types of animals. You can use a small, hand-powered spray bottle to mist a 10- or 20-gallon habitat, but a larger, pressurized sprayer is preferable for large vivaria. Automated misting systems can even be installed if you are willing to go to the trouble and expense of setting one up. It's important to research the specific humidity requirements of the specific animal in your vivarium and adjust the humidity levels accordingly to provide them with an environment that closely resembles their natural habitat. As a general rule, the bigger the better! Size isn’t the only consideration, though; there are a number of factors that need to be taken into account to ensure that you are providing the best enclosure for your pet. Best wooden vivariums overall Equipment Choice: There are two types of hand misters that work well for smaller setups. One being a pump sprayer (they come in all sorts of sizes), and the other a continuous spray bottle. For larger setups, I highly recommend an automatic misting system. There isn’t a practical way for reptile and amphibian keepers to measure air exchange. You must monitor your pet, plants and overall habitat to ensure that you are providing an acceptable amount of ventilation. Again, we need to look at size and ventilation. Really, the only wooden vivarium we could recommend for the commonly kept species of chameleon (panther and Yemen, or veiled) is the VivExotic Large Deep Arboreal. Coming in at 115cm width, an impressive 61cm depth and a 91.5cm height (45 x 24 x 36”) with large vents specifically designed to make installing equipment easier, this is a great base for your chameleon’s habitat. Most reptiles suitable for rainforest vivaria should be provided with constant access to clean, fresh drinking water. But you must provide this water in a sensible manner and employ good hygiene practices to prevent your pet from falling ill.

If being used for species that like a higher level of humidity, then it is very important to seal the seams of the vivarium with an animal safe silicone sealant. Considerations before choosing a vivariumMaintaining the appropriate humidity level is crucial to ensure the well-being of the vivarium's inhabitants. Striking the right balance allows for optimal growth, natural behaviors, and overall health of both the animals and the ecosystem as a whole. In the following sections, we will explore different methods, such as hand misting, automatic misting systems, and foggers, to help you regulate humidity effectively in your vivarium. Hand Misting This is a common technique that often works well and looks great. However, it does present a few challenges. For example, you’ll need to add a significant quantity of gravel to the habitat to make such a reservoir, which will raise the habitat’s weight considerably. Filtration The main purpose of ventilation in a vivarium is to maintain temperature. You can tell whether or not your vivarium requires more ventilation by observing your reptile’s behavior. Heating: Heating elements can affect humidity levels in a vivarium. Heating devices like heat lamps or heating pads can increase evaporation, leading to a decrease in humidity. To maintain an optimal balance, consider using thermostats or humidity controllers to regulate both temperature and humidity levels.

Chemical treatment is usually the third stage in the filtration process. During this phase of the water treatment, the water is passed over activated carbon. The carbon bonds with many potentially harmful chemicals, rendering the problematic compounds inert and the water safer. Some people choose to remove their reptile from the viv at feeding times completely. We have written a blog post about the issue, and so take a look at our impaction in bearded dragons post for more information. Customization: Automatic misting systems feature adjustable settings, allowing users to fine-tune misting frequency, duration, and intensity based on the specific requirements of the vivarium and its inhabitants. Misting Frequency Settings: Adjusting the misting frequency is essential to match the vivarium's requirements. Consider factors such as the species' moisture needs, temperature, and ventilation. Fine-tune the misting frequency to prevent under or over-misting. Snakes and lizards living in habitats with excessive ventilation will often experience poor sheds. This occurs because the habitat humidity will drop in response to high levels of air exchange. For problem-free sheds, most rainforest-dwelling snakes require high humidity levels.
